Mission Statement:
The CENTRII (The Center for Radiation Injury Intervention) website has been
constructed to provide new and expanded education resources to improve expertise
in radiobiology. CENTRII is one of five Centers for Medical
Countermeasures Against Radiation (CMCR's) established by the RFA. CENTRII
is dedicated to aid in supporting the educational aspects of this project and to
provide a virtual campus for trainees located in Michigan, Wisconsin and
Toronto, Canada.
The educational training will cover the principles governing the response of normal tissue to radiation through a series of talks from experts within and outside the Center and self-tests to evaluate understanding in both laboratory training and education. The lecture series consists of a videotaped seminar series covering important radiobiological issues that will be webcast and available along with corresponding self-test modules. Each self-test module will consist of a set of multiple choice questions which will automatically be forwarded for evaluation.
The lecture series will be presented by leaders in the field of radiation biology with expertise in radiation protection or the normal tissue response to a drug thought to protect against radiation injury. Trainees will become familiar with the physical, chemical and biological factors affecting radiation sensitivity of cells, tissues, organ systems and whole organisms and potential pharmacological approaches that may protect, mitigate and treat radiation injury. In addition, trainees are encouraged but not required to attend laboratory journal club, departmental/institutional speakers programs and ongoing radiation biology lectures being delivered to radiation oncology residents or radiation technologists in order that the trainee gains a broader perspective of his research and areas of specialties.
